How can I cut an 18" circle out of a piece of wood with a band saw. Somewhere I saw a trick or jig that gave a very good cut but can't remember what it was.

You can make a jig out of a board with a nail driven partially through it. Clamp the board so that the nail is centered at the center of the circle. Rough cut the piece beforehand. Rest the blank on the nail, start the saw and turn the blank into it. You will get a perfect circle.

You can adjust this jig for any diameter circle.

Hope this helps.

Believe it or not, you can cut a perfect circle using a table saw. :)
