i have rented a home that was sitting for some time. when i use hot water, there is a loud thumping in the beginning flow. i have complained to the landlord and was told it was caused by calcium deposits, but they have not offered to remove them from the heater. can i do this myself or is this a big deal?

thank you for any answers or help or directions in advance:confused:

Hello: lgreer. Welcome to my Gas Appliances topic and our Do-It-Yourself Web Site.

About the only possible solution is to try flushing the tank. The instructions to accomplish this task in posted near the top of this forums topic list. Water heater flushing and draining.

Use the flushing method. Might help but don't count on it. If the water supply contains high levels of calcium, it has baked into the walls of the tank.

The entire houses piping system, all faucets, etc in the house than would have it. Can be removed from dishwasher, washing machine with vinegar. But I do not recommend any type of cleaner for th water heater nor the piping system.

I also copied your question into the plumbing topic. The resident plumbers may have some help, advice and or suggestions. Check that topic also. Seems there was an identical or like question already asked in that topic recently.

If you need further assistance, use the REPLY button to add any additional information or questions, etc. Using this method also moves the topic back up to the top of the list automatically.
