My heater is making a loud whoomp on lighting up. I think it needs cleaning. Do the burners need to be removed, do I vacuum, where do I start?

Hello: lompas
Most commonly the noise is caused by a slightly delay in ignition either between burners as they ignite from each other or from the pilot light or hot surface ignitor.
I would need more detailed and brand specific information if you would kindly supply more. Use the reply button to add more info.
Type of ignition system, (pilot flame or electronic hot surface ignitor, sparking ignitor, etc) number of burners, brand name, age and location of the unit, etc. All important facts to know.
Cleaning out the firebox is a good start but might not be the cause. There are several and I would need specific info. There are already a few questions in this topic that cover the same or like problem. Reading them may also provide you with some starting points.
Be glad to help further also. Provide plenty of details in your next reply so I can focus on the major points.
