im planning on installing a wood panel floor in my basement. im going to lay plywood or some other type of subfloor over the concrete, with the wood flooring itself on top of that. the space is divided into 2 rooms, the small room and the "entrance" area will be tile, and the main large area will be wood floor. my basement is extremely dry so moisture isnt really a concern. im planning on putting the tile directly on top of the concrete.
the wood floor will be 3/4" high, and im planning on using 1/2" plywood, as the ceilings are low to begin with. would this be a bad idea?
now onto the questions.
1. is there anything cheaper for the subfloor other then plywood? ive heard osb can work but its often a nightmare after the fact?
2. how would i attach the subfloor to the concrete? there's carpeting there now but i plan on ripping that up, but leaving the glue residue and attaching the subfloor over that to save work and time.
3. whats a good price estimate per sq ft for a plywood subfloor?

i would highly reccomend you do a mat test on this floor before proceeding. Take some 6 mil plastic and cut it into 2x2 squares about three of them, and duct tape them to the floor, wait 24 hours and see if there is moisture under the plastic. You will be amazed at what you may find in that dry basement.
You will also need to put this wood on a sleeper system, with 2x 10's shot to the floor and then hard insulation board put in between the sleepers then roofing felt then the wood,no plywood, anything below grade needs special attention or this will fail.
Get back to us and let us know what you think about this ,feasable or not?
