Hi , I was told that it must be at least 40 degrees when laying brick .
We were going to have our chimney crown repaired but I live here in the north east and the tempature is in the low 30's and even lower at night ..
The chimney people did not mention this when they set the appointment for this monday december 22 , ..
But I was told that you should never lay brick in very cold temps ..
Is this True ? Should I call them tomorrow and cancel ?
I just checked the wheather report , and while it is going to rise to 40's during the day at nite it will drop to low 30's . ..
Can you lay brick for a chimney in this tempeture ?? also on tuesday and wednesday we are expecting alot of rain ..
Thanks , Laura

The mortar should not freeze. If the temperature will be 40 that should give it time to cure. I would imagine that the mason who will lay the brick is aware of this and the effect freezing temperatures would have on the quality of the work. I would make that point with him when he arrives.

Thanks Chris , But what if it goes lower than freezing at night and in the morning ?
usually this time of year the temps are at freezing , and this mason says he does brickwork year round ..
How can this be ?
