We are about to buy a house built in 1930 with shiplap siding. The exterior needs to be completely repainted. I plan to clean with bleach/water solution and pressure sprayer; then sand. I don't know if the current paint job is oil or latex. Will I need to prime the entire house or just bare spots if I plan to use latex paint?
Thanks for your help!!!

Sand first, then wash.
You will get more uniform results if you prime the entire surface, if there are many or large areas that are bare.
If the surface is clean and mechanically sound, you could skip priming. Latex is better suited for painting houses because it is flexible and will allow moisture to transpire.
Hope this helps.

If there are any bare wood spots, I would spot prime them first, then proceed to prime the whole house.

I'm with prowallguy here........The bare areas will absorb more primer therfore hitting them twice will ensure a uniform topcoat to follow.
