Since I got carb working and gears going forward and back
ward, i noticed the recoil starter rope is frayed and I would
like to change it. I now have the original pull cord from Sears.
How do I make sure it goes on right (recoils) after pulling to
start. Is there a trick to it. Thanks again for all you help

Hi Shortie!
Remove the cranking mechanism. Some are riveted or welded to the engine shroud, so you may need to remove the entire shroud. Pull the existing rope all the way out. Hold the spool so that it won't retract, and cut the knot off the end of the rope that holds it into the spool. The thread the new rope in and tie a knot in it. Then tie the handle on and let it rewind the new rope. Hope that helps!
