Hi everybody,
I am a new home owner. The stairs in the house have brand new carpet and I want to protect it. I've already bought runners that I need to install. I also bought the rods but I don't have the slightest idea how to go about it. I read the advice to Sandy but I don't seem to be as knowledgeable as her. Could someone be more specific.

Without seeing the stairs and rods, it is hard to say or see what needs to be done.
You may have to attach the rods through the existing carpet, making holes in it.

most likely that will be the case. It will put holes in the carpet, but if the runner is made of wool, you will not be replacing it for quite some time.

Often times trying to protect your stair carpet you can create a trip hazzard. I would reccomend purchasing enough carpet to do the stairs again.

The runner is actually wool so I will risk installing it. I found some very detailed information on Bob Vila's WEBsite. Thank you all.
