Yes, there is a way to default it - but, you do need to make sure it's not locked-out first (otherwise, you may end-up with a completely useless panel.) To do that:
1) Power the system down completely (unplug the transformer, then the battery) Also, unplug the RJ jack before you attempt this (don't want the police showing up)
2) Apply just the AC power (transformer) and listen to the panel for 10 clicks of the phone relay (it may take 2 people to do this - but the 10 clicks are obvious)

If the panel clicks - it's locked-out. If it does not click - then you can proceed to defaulting the system.

Get yourself a manual for the system here - it will tell you how to hardware default the system (pretty simple) and you will need it to reprogram it anyway.

Good luck - let us know if you need any help!

it only clicks once which i assume is it trying to call monitoring company for being unhooked no battery etc. so does that mean it is locked out???

No, 10 clicks means it's locked-out. If it's clicking once, that's ok - it does this for fail-safe for your phones inside the house (otherwise, if the panel lost power, you would have no phones in the house.)

You should be ok to go ahead and default the system.

Good luck!
