I was adjusting the glass door assembly on my fireplace and noticed that the back was covered with some kind of insulating material. It looks kind of like a cross between foam and fiberglass.

Guess maybe I’m paranoid, but any chance of this being made with asbestos? The screen came with the house so I don’t know how old it is, my guess its anywhere between the 50s and 70s.

Unlikely, but you could have it tested for peace of mind.

Hello: BriG

In several of the other topics and in the Safety Awareness topic, there is a post pertaining to asbestos, which may provide some additional information.

Since your question pertains to the glass on the fireplace doors and not directly to the fireplace, I will copy this thread into the Glass & Mirrors topic for you.

Read your question in that topic also. Most likely, additional replies will be offered.
