We recently sanded, stained and varathaned an old hardwood floor in our living room and front foyer. It turned out really well -- except in the foyer area. Apparently the stain in that area wasn't as dry as the living room, and so when we applied the varathane, the stain came off a bit, turning out lighter than the living room. It isn't super noticable, but it's going to bother me.
Can anyone suggest a QUICK fix to this problem? (ie, one that doesn't require me going out and getting that big heavy crazy sander machine again!)
What do you think would happen if I just gave the area a light quick sand (by hand), put some stain on, and let it sit for a while?
Thanks for any input!

Sorry, but once the varathane dried it was a done deal. You'll need to strip the varathane and touch up the stain. Be patient and wait for the stain to dry before you reapply the varathane.
P.S. Did you really use varathane, or was it polyurethane?
