Can someone tell me what is a typical charge for moving furniture and ripping up old carpet before installing the new?
I had 160 yds of carpet installed this weekend (they are just finishing now) and I am wondering if I should give them a bonus as I was not able to pack up two of the rooms so they did it? Packing up means the normal things I would have packed away myself (and clutter). They also had to move all my furniture throughout although they are charging me $3 a yd for moving furniture and ripping up the old. They are not taking away the old carpet, though.

Figure how much unanticipated extra time it took and give them an extra $25 an hour

I'd say $25 per hour, per man on the crew.
I bill, .22¢ per sq.ft. which is $1.98 per yard, to move minimal furniture. This that are huge or need disassembly, I bill that piece of furniture separately@ $50.00 per hour, on top of the normal per foot pricing.
I bill .13¢ per sq.ft. which is $1.17 per yard to pull up carpet and pad.
I bill .15¢ per sq.ft which is $1.35 per yard to haul off and dump carpet debris.
