I have baseboards that have been chewed up by a former pet. Is ther any way of fixing them instead of replacing them? Some of the damaged wood is on door jambs.

mccenotto,
An attempt to repair the molding could be tried, but after purchasing putty/filler, sandpaper, etc., it's probably better and easier to replace the molding with new. Either wood, or the newer plastic is paintable.

You could probably use two coats of lightweight spackle to fill the problem, then prime and paint.

I wouldn't replace unless absolutely necessary - especially if you're in an older house! Keep the character - use bondo to patch, sand smooth, prime and paint.
