Hi:
I wanted to ask about my ceiling. We had some mold work done and they put up a barrier to block off the rest of the house. I now have holes in my crows foot ceiling. My restoration guys tried to patch (and I mean patch, not repair) the crows foot at the holes, but it looks terrible. I don't think they really put much effort into it. Now there are also some cracks where a wall was removed probably years ago. All the traffic in our attic seems to have caused them. I am being told in order to repair the cracks the whole ceiling would have to be scraped and redone. Since they are so close to the holidays now, they want to pay us $1200. out of the ins settlement and have us rehire them after the 1st of the year. I am not a happy camper.
We have been out of our house for over 3 months, though put up in nice digs, I want to come home. This is an ongoing nighmare. A broken water pipe in my off garage laundry room caused this. We did repipe the whole house so this won't happen again.
1: Is it feasible to do some kind of repair on the cracks and restore the crows foot without a total rescrape/redo?
2: What is the est. cost of something like this if we were to hire out for it to be done at a later date?
3: Anyone live in or near JAX, FL who knows anything about crows foot ceilings? If it has to be scraped, I would go to a knockdown instead. I think the crows foot kind of dates the house, it was built in the 60's. The terrazo(sp?) flooring is nice but too marred up to leave as is. Its has to be recovered also.
I worked in construction and am somewhat competant for minor repairs. I just don't know about something like this.
Help, advice would be greatly appreciated at this time.
Thanks,
Gadget Lady
p.s. We are selling this house come spring and moving north to PA. So, we don't want to put more $$ into it than we have to. Anyone want a great deal on a house in JAX, FL? :-)
Quiet neighborhood!

Sorry about your problems. You aren't going to scape off that texture. If it is stippled (not knocked down flat) then you can scrape it down some. It's very possible to repair the areas and match the texture. Don't know for sure what it would cost. You should get 3 or 4 estimates and opinions on what can be done. Good luck.
