Hi everyone. I moved into a house with a Simon II system, but the panel was missing its transformer. I read up on the system and then bought a radioshack equivalent transformer, but it didn't work either, so I opened the panel up and several of the components on the board were fried (charbroiled, actually.)
Ended up buying a new simon II panel on ebay. Now, I have the panel, a smoke sensor, a motion sensor, 4 door sensors, and a sound sensor. I would like to add one motion and one smoke sensor. I am clicking around on ebay a good bit, and finding a lot of these X10 motion sensors - are they compatible with the simon ii panel? i know that lamp and appliance modules are, but not sure about motion sensors and such. Also, what if any competing mfr's smoke sensors will work with the simon ii?
and finally, can a simple radioshack powerhorn siren be used with it?
Thanks.

No, X-10 motions will not work with the Simon - the Simon sends X-10 signals, but cannot receive signals.
Only the ITI wireless smokes work - and even 1 or 2 of them will not work.
The RadioShack powerhorn sirens are knock-offs of the X-10 equipment (and essentially the same thing - relabeled maybe?) - so yes, they should work, no guarantees though. X-10 is cheap enough, you're better off just using what you know works.
Good luck!

So - do you know of any motion or smoke sensors other than those manufactured by ITI that will work with this system?

There's a company called Secure Wireless that makes keychains, door/window transmitters and motions (last time I checked, the motions were not yet available) for ITI/DSC/Adecmo/Caddx/Napco systems. You may want to give them a try. They are slightly cheaper, but only by about 10%.
Good luck!
