As part of a kitchen addition, we are planning on expanding our current dining room into our old kitchen. We would like to make it look original by adding more of the same oak strip hardwood flooring we have in our current dining room into the new area. (Just spend a week re-finishing old floor this summer). We could either buy new and hope we can match it, or pull up some of the floor in a bedroom that is now carpeted, then finish it with the same finish that I put on the dining room this summer. Question number one is can the old floor be taken up in the bedroom without destroying it, and nailed into the new area?

Question number two is how to blend in the old and new, since the dining room ends right now at the wall, which will be gone. I don't want a big seam down the middle of the room, but how could I do it otherwise, preferably DIY, without paying a pro lots of money. Can I take some of the strips out in the dining room create that random length look that is in the rest of the room?

If this helps, the floor is likely original to the house, about 60 years old, very traditional looking T & G strips nailed through tongue. Thanks much for any help with my planning.
