I just intalled a Concord Express system. I am trying to learn a ELM keychain remote ( the two-button type) into the system. I followed the instructions provied by the manufacturer. I first pressed the unlock button twice. The LCD flashed every time when it was pressed. Then I held the unlock button waiting for the light to flash 3 times. But, the light just flashed once. I waited long enough. But, the light never comes on again. I am wondering whether I am doing something wrong. I appreciate any help to point me in the correct direction.

Thanks.

Re read the instructions. The ELM units take a fairly complex multi-step keying sequence to learn in. You have to do steps a, b and c. It's not an either/or. I assume that that sets up all of the signal combos for the encryption built into the keyfob.

Are you sure it's an ELM keychain? Just because it's 2-button doesn't mean it's ELM - it could be just a regular keychain too. Try pressing Lock/Unlock for 2 seconds to see if it programs. I can't find the instructions for the ELM, so I'm not sure if you're doing it right or not (not off the top of my head.)

Good luck!

Thanks a lof for the reply. The keychain remotes have a label on them with the trade mark of ELM Technology. I followed the instructions provided by Concord Express installation manual. I will try it again tonight. By the way I selected the 01 group for the remotes. Is this the right choice?

Thanks again.

MrRonFL,

I appreciate your advice. I was trying to follow the a, b and c procedures as outlined in installation manual. For Part a, after press the unlock button twice, I held the unlock button steady, waiting for the light to flash 3 times as suggested by the manual. But, the light flashed only once, not 3 times. I don't know what I was doing wrong. I willl try again tonight to see anything will happen.

Thanks again.

Hmmm...

You've picked what should be a valid sensor group. I assume you are on a sensor number that's not used by anything else.

ELM Keychain Touchpads—a.) Press and release the unlock button twice quickly, then press and hold until the LED flashes three times. b.) Press and release the unlock button once quickly, then press and hold until the LED flashes two times. c.) Press and hold the unlock button until the LED flashes once.

It sound's like you are following the steps, you may need to go back and delete the sensor number you were trying to use, and try inputting it again. I'm not sure what is missing (sometimes step by step second hand is missing some critical bit of info, like delaying a second too long, or any number of things.)

Truth be told, I've only learned in a couple of the encrypted keyfobs, and it went without a hitch (no one was watching, so I didn't have a chance to look like a goob....)

Thanks all for helping me out. Last night I tried it again to program the keygobs, and I succeded. The thing that I did wrong before was that I pressed the unlock button too long to waiting for the light to flash for the first two steps in Procedure a). Last night I found out that just pressing the unlock button quickly WITHOUT the light flashing was sufficient.
Now I have a new question. When I press the lock button on the keyfob, the system arms to "STAY". But, I want it to arm to "AWAY". How should I change some of the settings to achieve this?

Thanks.

That was my next guess - after reading the instructions MrRon posted, I went back and re-read your first post. Anyway, glad you got it working.

As for the Auto-Away mode - the option you're looking for is "Keychain TP Arm" (0403) - you want to turn it ON.

Hope that helps.
Good luck!

Thanks for all who have helped me. On the keyfobs, I found out that by pressing the lock button twice, the system will arm to "AWAY" mode. But, I will check the setting to see if I can change it to what Brandon has described.

Thanks again.

Yes, that's the default. Stay with a double tap for away. The line Brandon is describing flips it around the other way.

Yeah, I agree, keep it double-tap. Sorry, I didn't realize you didn't know how to do that. Arming directly to Away can be a bad thing.

I will keep the Keychain remote as it is. Thanks Brandon and MrRon for the useful hints and help. The Concord Express system now is working perfectly. I actually learned about the Concord Express panel from posts in this forum. This forum helped me greatly. Thanks again.
