This question is for the moderators? Are you guys familiar with the product called Liquid ceramic ? Do you know if it is an effective insulator as it states? I know it has a high solids content 60 percent and is thicker than normal latex paint. Any info would be helpful. Thanks

I have read about it. Based upon the thinness of the layer you could build, I suspect its insulating abilities are not exceptional. Dried paint is 100% solids. Paint is not much of an insulator. Paint might work as a temporary dielectric. If you are trying to achieve a thermal barrier, there are better choices than paint. IMO

From the Liquid ceramic web site:
"Provides a thermal barrier against heat and cold transmission as compared to six inch batting insulation (tested by Warnock Hersey)"
Note that the test results are not actually posted. 6 inch fiberglass is around R-18. If the paint film is 1/100 of an inch thick, it is R-1800 per inch.
A truly remarkable number.
A truly impossible number.
Look at the web site and try and find what the actual R value of the coating is.
Warnock Hersey is a fire testing lab, not an insulation testing lab.
Anything to good to be true...usually is.

I have talked to a couple east-coast contractors who said real good things about this paint, but I have yet to see any real evidence that it works. I would love to test drive it myself, but the situation has never risen and it would be much too expensive to just buy it myself and try it.

Right on!

Thanks It seemed bogus to me. And it is remarkably expensive! I think one would be better off using a product like Duration.
