The Best is a mater of which co the salesman wants to sell you.
The goverment came up with AFUE standardzation. The least efficent you can buy is 78%AFUE, the most efficent about 96%AFUE.
A gas furnace that is 80% AFUE would waste 20% of its heat up the chimney.
If you have a smaller house or small gas bills the 78-80% furnaces are fine.
If you have a larger home and larger gas billes the 90% furnaces make more since.
Now if you have large electric bills you might want to consider either the 80% or the 90% with a DC motor(usually refered to as variable speed or infinate speeds)this motor only uses the power of a 80 watt light bulb. This furnace costs more up front but pays for itself faster.
I would recommend the Bryant Plus - 90 i or a 355MAV model. Now Bryant makes the Carrier Furnace Too. Other good furnace choices are Rheem and Ruud, American Standard and Trane.
GOOD LUCK
