I have kind of an unusual ?. I had a new concrete driveway/sidewalk put in about a year and a half ago. In my first winter with the new concrete I put salt down to melt ice away on the sidewalk leading up to the house. When spring came I noticed a few rocks from the concrete had come out in that area where the salt had been laid down creating little crators all over the place. My ? is did the salt cause this if so what should I do to help with the ice problem. Thank you.

Dont use Halite, salt or rocksalt on sidewalks, it will severly pit the surface. My recommendation is to use icemelt that claims its sidewalk and plant safe.

Calcium Chloride. Stay away from Sodium Chloride, aka rock salt, salt, etc.
