:( okay.. first things first, i have this flower which I don't know what kind or type it is. It's petals are yellow in color and its stems and leaves are dark yellow green. It's turning 1 year old now and yet, it has no bloom!! I've tried my best to put compost, and all. However, there's no bloom yet. Lately this week, I saw some tiny circles forming on them and I presume they're going to be flowers already. My problem is that, from the bottom, the stem and the leaves are starting to die and i don't want that tiny expected "flower" to die too. What's happening to my plant? How can I save it? It seems like my whole bunch of plants are starting to die from below but still grows forward.. and it's starting to bend so much that they stems are starting to break. help!! what shall I do?

I understand your frustration at not knowing what to do for your plant. I must emphasize that, in order to make recommendations, the plant must be known.

If you can bring yourself to do so, take a cutting of the plant to a nursery and have it identified. If not, at least take some of the leaves. A photo would be helpful, too.

Hope this helps.

hey thanks.. though i still don't know the solution to my problem, it kind of helped me out. I can't take my plant to a nursery because I don't even have the money since I'm only a teen but it's okay.. I'll just place a photo of my plant here. i hope you can help.. :) thanks!! wait for the picture okay? :D

It appears that this is a chrysanthemum.

wait.. question.. how do you avoid the dying from below? is it natural? also, a certain site said that i should pinch 3/4 of the stem? what? i don't get that term.. i will pinch the stem with my bare hands? how do you cut the stems or blooms? wouldn't pruning cause the plant to dry up and die? yeah i admit.. im ignorant about gardening haha.. :)

Pinching back is a term that indicates that a light trimming of just the stem is done rather than a wholesale shearing of stems and leaves. Pinching mums back through the season helps increase the number of blossoms as well as encourage a compact plant. Some just pinch through the stem to trim it, others use a cutter of some sort. The plant will heal from this trimming. Pinching back the plant is done on a schedule to produce more flowers, but stopped by a certain point in the season to avoid removing the future buds when no more will be set.

Keep reading up on mums on some of the dedicated sites to help you produce a rewarding plant.

Hope this helps.
