I was just going to remove the edging that covers the edge where the floor meets the walls and place the wire in that gap and then replace the edging. I can't think of any reason why this shouldn't be done. Yet I never hear of anyone wiring through this space. This is for speaker wiring. I guess I will have to use wiring specific for inside the walls. Any comments as to any reason not to do this is appreciated.

People do that all the time. For speaker wire, whatever method you can use to get it from one place to another is a good one. Thats not usually considered a professional installation method though.
If this were electrical wiring (aka 120 Volts) that would be another story.

it is also simple to install wall plates using this method. just drill a hole behind the molding to gain access to the wall cavity. then punch a hole in the wall where you want your wall plate. feed wire from one hole to another. a wall box and plate should only run a few dollars at a home improvement store.
