I want to find out more about HDTV. In specific, what I need -- not how it works, how it differs from analog TV, aspects, et al.

I have the HDTV-ready monitor and, if I understand correctly, now I need:

+ an antenna [a website suggested a medium-range multi-directional or a medium-range uni-directional with a pre-amp] but not sure which type to get [also indoor vs. outdoor, and any other catagories there may be that I haven't heard about, yet].

+a tuner/receiver/amplifier/decoder [not sure what it's called], with some called "terrestrial" or somesuch

+RG-6 coax 0 75-ohm [not 50-ohm]

Can anyone shed some light on this and possibly refer me to a good source of information on this subject. I have looked at several websites and haven't found much of anything to answer my questions.

Right now I have basic cable and am pondering whether to get HD cable in the future -- Would I connect the antenna to the cable splitter?
Thanks

First thing - check with your cable provider on the HDTV delivery.
You may not need an antenna at all.

If you use off the air reception, the proximity to the broadcast tower is important. Pixelizing is a problem if your not close.

DishNet satellite plans to have over 40 HD channels in the not too distant future.
Another option for the HD fanatic would be the new Voom Satellite service.

Newer digital A/V receivers will handle the audio.

Here's a good site to check:

Thanks for the website, answers several questions -- excellent information.

I do still have some other questions regarding hookup if anyone knows the steps.

Thanks,
