Seeing that post on pool heating reminded me.
What do is the best Water-2-Water H/E to use for a spa/swimming pool
I got a very nice S/S H/E from an outfit in Canada called SEC (www.heatexchangers.ca) But I wonder if there are any better ones available ?? What do you guys use over there?
Need to be S/S because of the chemical use in the pools?

I use the SS brazed plate model like is shown in your link. I'm not sure exactly how many plates but it has a 3/4" inlet and outlet. I can raise the temp of my pool 1 degree in 2 hours. The pool contains 18,500 gallons of water and I know it takes a lot of energy to accomplish that. I am satisfied with the results and have been using it for about 8 years.

The one I got was a Shell & Tube type
PL-45 or PL-70
I don't like the plate type as they have too high a back pressure. Some are 2.5 metre or more. Plus they're priced like they are made of Gold not S/S.
The pl-45,70 were reasonable priced compared to the plate type unless you know of a good place to get them?
Thanks

I paid $295 for mine. I looked it up because I didn't think it was extremely high. I just divert a fraction of the flow through it by setting a 2lb increase in filter pressure. I have it plumbed into the filter discharge with 2 tees and a ball valve between them. I can actually run my boiler too cold if I flow too much water through the exchanger. I will have to take a look at the exchanger you mentioned.

Had a lot of small oil fired boilers for pool heaters there in Missouri just for the pools that we worked on. Some LP also but not many. Down here They sell lots of heatpump pool heater here and take them out in a year cost to high to run. Me I just have solar on the roof, works just fine. Then if the pool gets to hot in the summer with it turned off, just have the pool pump run at night with them turned on. lets see ,Narroc you would have to put them on the north side of the roof down there. Dont know if you can use them on the boiler water side but we use a Jandy valve on all pool pipeing;) ED

The Sec H/E is US$140-170 but by the time you allow for exchange at NZ$1= US$0.60 and then add on freight 7 customs etc you look at about NZ$350.
But then the plate ones are over a thousand NZ.
Yes we would put the solar facing north LOL.
I did try a copper one but that last about 4 months. Before it rotted out. And yes I did have it on bypass too.
I'm not a great fan of plate H/E as they have a very hi flow resistance on both sides.
