Just finishing a room in my basement. For the most part the drywall was installed relatively straight , but i find that i'm using alot of compound , just cant seem to even out the walls. Now I'm not a pro at this but is there some thing I'm missing. How many times should I be applying compound and sanding? Any tricks of the trade would be appreciated.

After it's taped you generally need 2 fill coats and 1 finish coat. What you're doing wrong, it's hard to say. You're learning the hard way that a good drywaller is worth the price charged.:D Good luck!
