How do I fix what I have done. I got the drywall up and done but when I applied the compound to the joints and corners they came out all uneven and lumpy. What do you suggest I do?

Were the joints lumpy after sanding? How about between coats?

HI Tom and welcome to the forums. So you've already learned that finishing drywall is just hard if not harder than hanging it. Not to worry, we'll get you thru this.
A little more info please, what kind of mud are you using?, lite or all-purpose. Have you thinned it down with a little water? What kind of tape are you using? traditional paper tape of mesh tape? Did you prefill all of the gaps over 1/4" prior to beginning to tape everything? Post back with a bit more info and we'll talk yu thru this.

I used the all-purpose compound (the premixed stuff). I applied a small layer of compound then put on the tape (mesh type). I used the steel corners for corners. I then put another layer of compound but put it on too thick. I then sanded it down but there are lines all over where I put the compound on. I did not notice how bad it was until I put primer on it.
Did not use any damp cloth to wipe down....did not know I could do this and think it would have helped.
Thanks

O.k. Tommyryder, the finishing process is like this: Bed tape, first fill coat, second fill coat, top coat or texture, then sand if smooth finish is desired. Sounds like you only put one fill coat on, is that correct? You need to go over everything at least 2 more times. Don't worry about the primer you can go right over it. Use a ten inch knife first then a twelve inch. Three coats on screws as well.
Use a lightweight mud from now on.
