I recently had my chimney rebuilt (top 11 rows only) and my 1020 square foot ranch tuckpointed "where needed". My wife and I feel like we got cheated by the contractor, but we aren't really sure. Here is what we've got:
Chimney was rebuilt using the same bricks
The cap on the chimney is laid into a glob of cement on the top stone
The house was tuck pointed in some spots, but one glaring spot was not done around one of the basement windows
In total the crew spent about 9 hours at my home
Can you help me understand what I should be looking for. The bottom line comes out to around $83 per hour for the job - that seems high to me but I don't know what to gauge against. What about the cap on top of the chimney stone? Should it be laid in a glob of cement? Any insight would be a help.

Did your other estimates come in close to the same price?
Tuckpointing tends to be rather expensive. It has to be disappointing that the workers missed an obvious place.
I would call the contractor back about the missed places.
Cement would be appropriate to mount to a chimney. Whether it is mounted properly might be another issue. A chimney sweep might be able to look at it knowledgeably and advise you on that.
Hope this helps.

$750.00 sounds resonable to me, how big was the crew that was there?
