We just bought our house and I tore off the border that they had going along the middle of the whole perimeter of our bathroom. It did leave a brown paper where the border was, but I have gotten a new border that is exactly the same size.

My question is do I need to remove that paper (and if so, how?) before I put up the new in it's place, or can I just put my border right on top of the paper? I bought a prepasted border, but I am using the paste anyway to help the adhesive, but the rest of the bathroom I am going to paint.

So can I just apply the border as is?

Thanks!!
Jenn

I think the brown paper left on the wall is the backing paper of the border, and you only pulled off the facing. You should wet the backing, repeatedly if necessary, and scrape it off before haging the new border.

thank you. I wasn't sure whether or not to do it so I am glad I asked.

If you don't remove the old backing, the water in the paste of the new border will loosen the paste holding up the backing. Then both borders will come down.
