My 11-year old Zenith System 3 20" TV now displays only a bright white horizontal line halfway up the screen. Yesterday, the picture was fine (as good as the day it was new, methinks.) Is there an easy fix for this?

you have vertical collapse. Is this a zenith modular set, (are there several modules with wires and sockets connecting to each other)? look for the module that connects from the yoke to a circuit board. This is the module you want to replace. it should have a part no. on it, like 9-000-00 rev.this is the simplr way to do it. First i would see if there are any parts suppliers that you can order from and get price quote for rebuilt module and dud value for the defective module.

Thanks. But... what/where is the yoke?

the yoke is around the pic tube, having many wires bundled together in a cicular pattern. It isn't the crt board which is at the very end of the pic tube. It does not have to be removed, only the wires to the board it connects to. this is the module you need to replace. snuffs

So the module is not an actual circuit board, it's something (a bundle of wires?) between the yoke and a circuit board? I'm just trying to pinpoint it.

Thanks for all your help.

Take the set in for service. This is not a DIY repair for someone who nothing about electronics.

eclipse, vertial collapse is one of the most easy repairs for the electronic tech. zenith sets make it even easier, cause they use module circuit boards. At least the autherized service centers do.

even so, it is an easy repair for any tech.

I checked the net for pictures of the inside of a tv, so you could identifie the parts, such as the yoke. sorry but could not find any.

maybe some else could help out with this.

taking it in for service will not break you, but if you want to learn about tv repair, there are web sites that can help you. after all this is a do it yourself forum. maybe some of the other techs can step forward and help out in this area.

Good luck, snuffs:)
