What size trowel do I need for 13" x 13" ceramic tiles. I have a 1/4" x 1/4". Will that be adequate. Someone mentioned 1/4"w x 3/8" deep. How critical is it?

You should be ok.You can back butter the tiles to insure good coverage. Every so often check to see the coverage,you are going for 100%(no voids, ridges,hollow spots,ect)
