Smoke Alarm is driving me crazy. Everytime I take a shower lately, my smoke alarm goes off....and it doesn't stop until I get out soaking wet and start fanning it. What could be causing this????? My bathroom is on the top floor, has no windows, but has a fan. The smoke alarm is just outside the bathroom door. I am not taking "very hot" showers, so I don't think that is what's triggering the alarm. Please help, I don't know what to do short of stopping everyone at my house from taking showers . Thanks:confused:

Try cleaning the smoke head, take a vacume cleaner with the brush attachment and suck around the opening, Steam and moisture do have an effect on smoke detectors, I personnally would not mount a head outside a bathroom door. If that fails replace the detector and move it away from the opening, ( If possible )
Good luck!

If the smoke is a consumer grade ion detector (if it's not connected to a security or fire alarm, it probably is), and it's more than 4-5 years old, I would replace it. When the element in the sensor gets old on these units, they frequently become hyper sensitive, and any major change in temp and/or humidity can trip them.
Cleaning is the first thing to try, but these puppies do die of old age (the mildly radioactive element inside has a half-life of around 6-8 years). Even the really good ones start failing at 10 years.

Not to mention, those house type smoke detectors - the kind you can get from the big guys - are fairly cheap (about $10-20/each.)
I'm in agreement with the other guys - try cleaning, but don't go out of your way. Just replace it if that doesn't help.
Good luck!
If it is an alarm connected smoke detector - then you need to talk to the installing company - they goofed-up and installed it in a bad place. I'm guessing it's not, since you didn't mention the fire department barging in on your showers :)
