When we had a new bedroom built, the contractor didn't have the walls sized before the wallpaper was hung. I tried steaming the wallpaper to remove, but it wasn't budging. We ended up painting over it and regluing places that needed it, but now we are remodeling the bedroom and really want the wallpaper off. We are going to retexture the walls professionally. Can the walls be retextured without removing the wallpaper? If not, how do you suggest we remove the wallpaper with out damaging the drywall?

If it was deemed impossible to remove before, you only made the situation worse by painting over it, and gluing specific areas. I would suggest in this case to prime over it with an alkyd based primer, or 2 coats of a DRC, Gardz or DrawTite. Then float out any imperfections, and reprime patched areas. Then have the contractor do the texture.

Hopefully, you were right about the paper not budging before, becuse if its not tight all over, adding extra weight (texture) might exert alot of force on it, and facilitate the peeling off in areas.
