Entertainment Center: TVs, Stereos, VCRs and DVDs - Record Player Hazardous for Sony Home Theater?

Finally replaced our 20 yr old Mitubishi stereo system with a Sony DAVC450 Home Theater System.

There are two audio slots, the old record player jacks are the right fit. But it won't play.

The instructions say do not hook up attachments not intended for use by the manufacturer cause it might be hazardous. It's shows a record player with a no no sign.

Is there anyway to get it to work? The DAVC450 does not have an AUX jack. Just two audios and the 5 speakers.

Our old cassette player does work in one of the audio jacks.

Suggestions? Is it hopeless? I won't be able to play my Eagles or Linda Rondstat or Jackson Browne? :confused:

Your problem is not an issue of size of cables, but type of inputs. Record players are what is called "mic" level inputs, where your tape deck and dvd, etc. are line level, which is what the Sony system comes with. The only way to solve your problem is either replace the receiver, or by an external amp that will convert the signal from Mic to line level, with integration into your new sound system

How much is an external amp and how big are they and where do ou get them?

Your best bet is probably on ebay...that will have the best prices for even a used one, that you could probably use. Look for a Pre-Amp for a Mic level component.....not sure of the price...
