I want to pad the seats of some barstools in my kitchen. The seats are currently round pieces of wood attached to the frame. It should be an easy matter to put padding on the seats, then cover them with fabric and staple to the underside of the seats.

My problem is that I don't know what kind of padding to use (or how much, for that matter). I'm thinking some kind of dense foam padding would work, but I haven't been able find foam padding-just batting.

Am I on the wrong track here? Thanks!

Many times upholstery shops or their local suppliers can provide you with 2 or 3 inch thick stiff foam of the sort used for this purpose.

The craft stores (i.e. - JoAnn's or Han****'s, just to name a couple, oh and Hobby Lobby also) they will also have the thicker foam not just the batting. It will come in all sizes of thickness. It will most likely be in the same corner as the home decor fabric (at least at the stores I go too). You are definitely on the right track!;)

I forgot to mention that you trace the size of your bar stool and go from there. My personal preference on this would be to cut more, say an inch or two, than you need. You then just use the electric stapler or those upholstery nails. With the stapler though I would use something like grogain ribbon or something to cover the staples. They will be able to help you at the store. See how that works. Really they will help. If not, write back here!:)
