Hello there, I have done some research but cannot find out the distance of screws when installing drywall. I know that the screws have to be staggered but can't remember -is it one ft on the ceiling? Thanks, John

As I recall, it is 8 inches.

When installing lids in new construction, I use 5 screws per joist, one in each recess and 3 evenly spaced across the field. We use drywall adhesive on walls and use just 3 screws, one in each recess and one centered in the field. Butt joints however should be screwed every 8" and you should cut a "v" in both ends to facilitate easier finishing.

screw off perimeter. 12 inces in the field. 8 inches on the butt joint.

The USG web site has the entire drywall manual available online. It has complete fastener schedules and finishing methods.

While I found everything else I wanted to know and was afraid to ask about USG products, I did not find a fastening schedule for sheetrock on their website. I believe this is because different areas have different building codes. Stick with the 12" in the field and 8" on the butt joint. You won't go wrong. Well as long as you screw it down that is.

Page 10 has the wood and metal fastening schedule for drywall. And note that the table is the maximum spacing.
