problem: the color faded to grey and then lost the picture.
any ideas as to what might have caused this or how to repair?
my first thought was the tube.

before we get started i have a couple of ?s
any experience with tv's or electronics.(i dont want anybody getting hurt from my advice)
did the set go grey just before the tv shut down,or did this process take a while.
the reason i ask is because sometimes this symptom is caused by a solder joint in the horizontal section of the tv.
does the set turn on at all.
when turning the set on hold your hand to the front of the tube you should feel a static charge(nothing to worry about).
if not it is possible horizontal output transistor or flyback transformer.(i'm still not ruling out a solder joint)
hope this helps

ps i dont think it's the tube.
