I just had a new ceramic floor installed and some of the grout lines are visibly wider than the others. Is there anyway to remove the excessive grout from the edges of these tiles to try to make the lines look the same as the others?

It sounds like the installer did not use spacers. I would have them replaced.

Actually they did, the grout is riding up higher onto the tile edges at these points.

If it isn't from a wider spacing at that tile, it can also be from a tile sitting a little higher then the tile next to it.

You can use a grout saw lightly to form the grout line, but chances are it will look worse.

Try a green 3M pad, with a little moisture on the grout for lubrication.

Even grout lines, is an art, that takes time to learn to do it efficiently.

The tiles might have varying tolerances in the actual dimensions of the tile. Then using spacers leaves a bigger grout line along some tiles and not others.

need to be careful with those grout saws though if you slip and run the blade accross the tile you may leave a black line on the tile called a metal mark that you cannot remove, you could also try a utility knife and run along the edge of the tile and scrape the grout down thatw ay,but again be careful to stay in the grout line and not let it get out on the tile.If you had someone install this call them back and let them do it cause it is their responsiblity:cool:
