Hi All:
Using 12" X 12" slate tiles (1/4") on top of two layers of 3/4" exterior plywood for a new countertop. My question is how thick should the thinset be for the installation? Also, I have a 12" overhang with support brackets underneath but am worried a bit about flexing. What type of thinset and grout should I use? Any comments appreciated!

with the exterior plywood i would still reccomend that you put down a layer of 1/4 inch durock as well, just to compensate for the expansion and contraction of the wood.If you dont opt to do that then use a thinset that you can add a liquid latex to,it would be a non modified thinset and then you would get a bottle of white latex to mix with. The overhang with the brackets are fine providing they do not give when pressure is put on them ,otherwise 10"is the absolute max overhang without support, you may also want to get a latex additive for the grout as well it will make withstand staining and the elements better:cool:
