Does anyone have an idea of how to remove nail polish (red) from carpet (white) without smearing (as I imagine nail polish remover would do? Is there any way to remove it without cutting the carpet? Thanks!

Apply nail polish remover (non-oily acetone type) - use cotton towel to apply to the spill. Dont wet the carpet backing. pick up soften material using a clean white paper towel, push toward the center of the spot ( to avoid spreading material).
Repeat above - soften and carefully remove a layer of the material each time. Haste may spread the stain and/or damage the carpet.
good luck

If all else fails it can be patched.

Harsh solvents(acetone) will destroy the bond of both the primary and secondary backing. Be careful. Carpet saturated with acetone will soon cease to be carpet.

- use cotton towel to apply to the spill.
This will ensure you do not apply too much to the spill. Do not saturate the carpet, put it on the towel.

Use non-acetone (banana oil) polish remover as instructed. Be patient and continue to blot from outside stain toward middle to prevent spreading. Once polish is removed, mix 1/4 teaspoon of dish liquid in a cup of warm water and blot to remove the oily residue. Then, blot with plain water to make sure soap residue is removed. Blot, blot, to make sure all residues are removed. Residues left in carpet will attract soil and cause rapid resoiling. If in doubt, call a professional.
