I am looking for the proper relay/switch/breaker that will allow me to turn my A/C system off with the signal from a 24v switch. The application is this: I have a moisture detection switch which will close a 24v circuit and I need that signal to break the normally closed circuit that supplies my central A/C.

I've seen relays in the Smarthome catalog that do this sort of thing, but I would prefer a manual reset breaker--like a GFCI outlet--so that power would not be restored to the A/C even if the 24v circuit opened after a period of time.

I'm having trouble finding this because I really don't know what such a device is called. Thanks for any suggestions.

Jon

Altronics is the big manufacturer of various alarm relays such as this. Give them a try. The hard part is going to be finding a manually reset relay/switch.

Good luck!

The device is called a lockout relay. There is a simple solution
using a standard double pole double throw relay and a normally
closed momentary switch. It goes something like this
24 volt source to common side of momentary switch other side
of switch to common side of leak detection from common side of
leak detection to common on one set of contacts on relay now go
from normally open contacts to relay coil from here go to normally
open contact on leak detection.Other coil connection to neutral.
Which leaves a set of contacts to shut down a/c.To reset this cicuit requires the alarm condition to clear and 24 volts removed from relay. You can omit the momentary switch if you dont mind
cycling power on your 24 volt source.Hope this helps
