Flooring Tile - Help me stop chipping tile with my new wet saw

Well, I planned on laying a nice pattern for my foyer floor tomorrow. I went out and purchased a small (7") tile wet saw this afternoon since I will be doing other tile jobs within the next year. I am cutting 12x12 tile (1/4" thick). Since I am laying some of the tile diagonally, I need to cut them in 1/2 from point to point. Each time I do this, it chips the top of the tile within the last inch. I have even tried cutting in 2 inches, then flipping the tile. No dice, it chips within an inch of ending the cut. Should I be cutting the tile with the backside up?

When I try to cut say a 7 inch piece (rectangular piece) using the guard, it get to the last inch and chips the corner (not just the top layer of tile).

Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated.

Slow down and let the water clean the blade. The slower you go the better the cut will be. You may want to pick up some cheap tile to practice on before cutting the tiles you want on your floor.

Make sure the moving table is exactly parallel to the blade. Without a dial gage this can be hard to check, but it need to be parallel within a few thosandths over the length of a cut. You also need to be carefull the tile is not moving on the table near the end of the cut.
