I bought some pretty decorative mosiac tile border in 11"x5" strips to put on a wall around my tub. What should I use to stick it to the walls? What should I grout it with? Should I get a proffessional to do it or can I do it myself? I have 19 pieces to border my tub.

You can "do it yourself" (that would be a great name for a web site) I would suggest using a latex modifeid thin set and grout. We will all help you and you'll be able to say "I DID IT MYSELF"With the help of ,floorman, danial, perry, john, ect, ect.

if this tub does not see a lot of kids splashing and having water fights you can use wall mastic for this type of install, providing of course it does not get very wet:cool:

Thanks for the replies. Can Mastic be used to grout too? The small mosaic squares are close together but do need some grout. It also has a mesh backing---if that makes any difference.

In a word, no. In two words, no no. ;)

Mastic cannot be used as a grout, since it is not a wearing surface and certainly isn't as strong as grout.

Most wall mosaics are spaced quite consistently, so you'll decide whether to use sanded or unsanded grout. This depends on the width of the spacing. Since you say it's a small gap between them, let's say 1/8" or less, then you'd use an unsanded grout. If it's wider, then you'd move to sanded grout.

Thanks for the help. I think this border was originally intended for the floor but I'm going to put it around a tub and cap it off with a 1/2 in molding that comes in 12" strips. This all should go up before I wallpaper-- Right? Or should I put the border up, then wallpaper , then add the 1/2" molding piece on top of the wallpaper?

you will get a cleaner edge if you put the paper on first then the border, just make sure you don't go too far down so that the border is adhered to the paper instead of the wallboard you don't

want to rely on the paper to hold this on:cool:
