What is the best way to clean berber carpets? A friend of mine had hers professionally cleaned and they ruined her carpet. Can it be steam cleaned or does it need to be shampooed?

Please explain, how it was ruined!!!

Hot Water Extraction, for nylon or olefin fiber is recommended by the carpet manufacturers.

I wouldn't use HWE on a wool!!!!
