Hi,
Anybody out there has any experience with samsung's new DVD player (model DVD-HD931)?
This DVD player has DVI output. My impression is that DVI video output is supposed to be much better than component video output. However, in my case DVI output is worse than even composite video. I have Toshiba 51" HD ready widescreen monitor.
I just want to know if there is something wrong with model itself or am I missing some settings?
Thinking that cable (Moster cable DVI400) was faulty, I swapped DVI cable. Then I took my model to Best Buy (I bought it rom Best Buy) and connected to Toshiba HD Ready monitors and Sony HD ready monitors.......but in all the cases picture quality was bad.
Anybody has any suggestions?

Hello again,
To give you some more information on development on this topic.....
I Called Samsung, and they could not offer any suggestions. They told me that if I want I can send in the unit for servicing or I can use component output.
However I opted for exchanging the unit with new one at Best Buy......but no improvements. The TV technician is coming today to see if the DVI input on TV itself is faulty.....I will let you know as soon as I find out.

TV Technician came and was on the phone with Toshiba. It turned out that my TV's Hyper Board (I do not know what that is, but has to do something with DVI input module) is bad. Toshiba was not aware of any issues with Hyper Board on model 51H83.
I am getting a replacement TV on Wednesday. Let you know how it goes.

I got replacement TV (same model - Toshiba 51H83) and it appears that the DVI picture distortion problem is gone. I will have to watch few more movies to make sure that's the case :D :D

....and saga continues.
After watching some more DVDs very carefully, I found that picture quality has improved quite a bit, but there is still blue overlay over video through DVI input...particularly when there is dark or shadow scene.
Bestbuy technician is coming next saturday to check it. If there is no improvement, I am going to swap the TV with different make/model.
I will keep you posted.

Finally I swapped my Toshiba TV with Mitsubishi 55" WS HD TV. And finally I have DVI picture to my satisfaction.
It appears that Toshiba and Samsung DVI standards are not compatible (although they both claim that they use exact same standard).....According to Toshiba, Samsung DVD player is not compatible with Toshoba.......and according to Samsung, Toshiba HD TV is not compatible with Samsung......go figure!!!!
However it seems that issue is with DVI module of Toshiba TV...it still has some bugs.

I do know that the HD931 has problems working with some Sony TVs, and it may be the case with some Toshibas. The fix is a software upgrade for the player that is installed off of a CD.
The DVI output on the HD931 will exibit black crush (instead of getting multiple shades of black, you only get one shade), and it is more apperant on certain tvs. I'm not sure if this is part of what you were seeing or not. Make sure your DVD player is outputting 1080i for the best picture. I believe the light on the front will be green.
I think you made the right choice in going with the Mits. That was my second choice when we recently bought a HD RPTV, and I think you should be happy with the set.
