Experts,
I have an old York Furnace. It has not been used in about six months. I just recently opened the gas line, and lit the pilot (following the instruction label). Then after turning the gas valve knob to the on position the furnace will still not ignite. I have tried bypassing the thermostat in case it might have been defective and still nothing. I have checked electrical conections to the transformer and to the fan which have correct readings. Is it possibly the Hot surface ignitor? Is there a way to test this without buying a new one?
Thankyou.

You said you lit your pilot, then there is no HSI (Hot Surface Ignitor)

Does the pilot stay on the whole time when you switch the valve from "PILOT" to "ON"?

If the pilot is staying on, then take your volt meter, and look for 24volts ac at the Gas Valve. If you read 24volts at the valve, the you have a bad valve. Double check to make sure it's turned to "ON".

If you have no reading, then trace from R on the term of the fan control center (one probe on R and follow the wire that leads to the gas valve and take a reading at each point) to the next item like safety switch, limit control.. ect. ect till you see where you are losing your 24volts.
