Adding on to house in East Central Indiana. Do I need to cover the insulation that I put in the studs with plastic sheeting. The insulation has a paper backing on it

When you install your insulation, the paper or foil side is the vapor barrier (very important). In colder areas (michigan...etc), the vapor barrier is always supposed to be on the warm side of the room(against the walls floors and ceilings). If you choose to put and additional plastic wrap on the inside of the room (up against the vapor barrier on the insulation) that would be up to you. Personally, i think the insulation with the paper or foil backing is sufficient. Hope i could help.

We put up a 2mil poly over all the out side walls ,paper or no paper on the insulation. At the same time on the ceiling also. Then dry wall. This way it helps to keep the windows clean because we just cover the whole wall with the poly. If you look just the paper could have holes in it some where;) ED
