do you recommend? We currently have no allergies but also do not have a furnace now. We have central a/c if this makes a difference.
I was told the Aprilaire 2200&2400 are an additional $400-$600 to install with the furnace.
I am seeing these products listed for $140-$150 on the web. Is it that costly or timeconsuming to install them or am I being overcharged.

Yes...
Why??
-Your system is going stay cleaner with these unit, so in the long run your blower cage, furnace, heat exchanger and A/C coil are going to stay clean and working at it's peak vs the cheap 50cent throw away fiberglass filter that only catches about 10% of the dust vs 90+% of the April Aire Media filter.
- By keeping the system clean your going to save on enegy bill, no need of expensive cleaning service calls on your A/C coil, and blower.
- You may not have allergy, but will help keep your home cleaner buy removing most of the floating dust in the air durning the winter months, and summer cooling. And if you have overnight gust or company who may have allgery, they will be comfortable while they visit you.
Is it a must to have on your furnace? No..... but think about knowing your system is going to stay clean for the money you spent on it. and the money you can save to avoid the "cleaning" service calls. And also, you only need to change the media once or twice a year, vs every month or two with the regular 1" filter.
~~~~~~~~
Yes, the dealer may charge more for the unit, but they need to make a living as well. And the extra amount they are charging are includig labor, parts, tools, sheetmetal.
Be like getting parts for a car. You may get it cheaper, then getting the part installed, and work done by a shop. but do you have the tools to do it all by yourself??
No...
I'll give you my personal feed back on these units.
EAC were the thing to buy 10+ years ago, and they now are not. Reason??? Upkeep!
The EAC Cells needs to be cleaned once a month or less depends on how dirty they get right away. When these cells do get dirty, they don't work as well anymore.. The "cleaning" power drops pretty fast they dust builds up on it. So if you want it's peek, wash it every 3 weeks.
Are you willing to give up 2 hours every 3 or 4 weeks to carefully wash the cells? Hoping you don't break the small wire they have in between the plate.
Dishwasher safe? Not really...
Pre-filter is another thing that need to be washed as well.
What would I suggest??
Aprilaire 5000 Electronic Media filter
Aprilare Media Filter
Filters on both of these air cleaner only needs to be changed out once or twice a year. No worries of washing, finding time, and listening to the zapping sound of of EAC, and no Ozone order!
PS, you love opening alot of new threads :-)
