My deadbolt lock will not clear the doorjamb when the key is turned to unlock the deadbolt. It moves like it is going to unlock, but stops short of coming out of the hole in the doorjamb. We have tried taking the plates off to manipulate the deadbolt but have had no luck. Can anyone give us any other suggestions as to how to get the deadbolt to clear the doorjamb so we can remove it and put in a new one?

Good evening Burt. When you remove the cover plates, check for any mechanical blockage of the deadbolt inside the door as you try to turn the mechanism with a screwdriver to the unlocked position. Just insert a thin blade screwdriver into the slot that the lock went into and turn. If that still doesn't work, remove the hinge pins and push the door out of the opening. Best to have someone on each side of the door. Once the door is out, replace the deadbolt and re-hang the door.
