The Barn I tore down was ravaged over the last 70 years by weather, hurricanes and age. I was able to save some of the wood and am wondering what do I do with the wood now?
I have 2 nice pieces of the outer walls that are 2x12x20 and Am thinking of trying to make a kitchen table out of that. IF i can find some good info about building a kitchen table.
I have around 15 Rafters from the hay loft that are 3x12x15. I have no idea what to do with these pieces of pine heart wood?
I also have around 500sq feet of assorted boards I was thinking of making into hard wood floors for the house we will be building soon. But how do i need to prepare the boards?

The main thing is do you have the power tools to do the work? I would say unless you have at least a bench planer and a jointer you would have to check with your ancestors. :)
Also you would have to make sure the wood is properly dried before you tackle this, especially since anything you do today will shrink over time if not.
And lastly as far as the flooring goes, chances are even with state of the art tools that 500 sq ft will be dramatically reduced by the time you are done "manufacturing" it.

While it's always sad to see an old barn demolished, I applaud your decision to reuse some of the material. The company I work for specialises in resawing wood from demolition sites and turning it into flooring & board stock. I'd be happy to offer a few pointers as to the reclaimation process if you'd like to call or email me.Pioneer Millworks (http://www.pioneermillworks.com)
