Hi-
I am looking into ideas for a 1300sq ft. Row home I bought this past summer. It has ELECTRIC heat.... ARGGG... ALthough it does have new windows and doors thoughout. I hate the thought of electric heat and seeing the bill....
I am lucky though as I am in between two other houses. So really only have two cold walls exposed to the wind and such...
My question is this ..Actually a guy at work told me this. Can I do this as well?
One of his friends placed a gas stove/blower furnace. Propane that is, in his basement. Then cut vents in the first floor. He claims he can heat his house nicely by letting the heat rise from the basement thru the first floor. He then says it keeps the upstairs warm as well?
Can this be done? What type of heater can I use and how would I vent it?
At my old apartment I had a propane type blower heater in my living room. It was then piped out the wall behind it... Seems like alot of heat lose there though...
Anyone suggest anything that I could do to do this? And is it possible?
I have NO ductwork nor a chimney....
Thanks for your suggestions?

Yes you can cut registers in the floor. From floor to floor and the heat will go up. You could find some that have small fans in them.
Run a heat loss on the home and get a good gas heater. But you have to have one that vents out a flue. You cant use any other type there.
Also you said LP by code can you put an LP tank in where you are?
They now have furnaces that have a AFUE now of 92.5 So you dont have much loss in the vent flue.
You said fuel cost go www.warmair.net compare fuel cost for where you are;) ED
